Happy New Year! During the winter vacation I went back to England. It was very cold! I met my friends and family. I had a great time.

This winter I am looking forward to snowboarding, but this year it is very warm so it hasn’t snowed much. I am a little disappointed; although I am glad it is not too cold. I hope we will have more snow in February and then I can go snowboarding on Mount Sanbe!

Autumn in Japan is very different to autumn in England. In Japan, the leaves on the trees turned beautiful bright colours (I especially liked the yellow ichou trees) and the temperature dropped very suddenly. In England, the leaves on the trees turn shades of brown and orange, and it rains much more in October and November.
I enjoyed watching the students at Ohda High School run the school marathon. Everyone looked like they enjoyed the race, and were especially happy to cross the finishing line. It was very interesting for me to watch, as we don’t have such a race in schools in England.

Now snow is falling in Ohda and everywhere looks very pretty. I have discovered the delights of the kotatsu and eating nabe (it is delicious!). I expect January and February will bring more snow, so I’m looking forward to experiencing more Japanese winter comforts.

I have tried many new things since I came to Japan. Nearly every day I try a new food or drink. My favorite Japanese food is okonomiyaki ? it is delicious! We do not eat raw fish in England, so it is a little strange for me to eat sushi. Also, I had not tried octopus before. Takoyaki is very chewy.
It is getting cold in Ohda now. I am happy that it is not humid, but I do get cold on my bicycle! The weather changes very quickly in Shimane. In the mornings it might rain and then in the afternoon it is sunny. It is difficult to know what clothes to wear!

It is fun experiencing the different things in Japan!

Ohda High School is a friendly school. Teachers and students are very helpful and cheerful. I have been in Japan for two month. Japanese summers are very hot and humid. It is very different to England
I really enjoyed the festivals in Ohda, especially the school festival in Ohda High School. The sports festival was lots of fun. Everyone joined in. The art work was beautiful. The dancers were very good. There were many different races and games. It was interesting to read the student's summer projects and to see the tea ceremony.
I am looking forward to the winter in Ohda High School.
